Norman Spector (born 1949) is a Canadian political strategist, policy advisor, and former diplomat. He is best known for his close association with former Prime Minister of Canada, Brian Mulroney.
Early Career & Education: Spector began his career in academia before transitioning into the political sphere. He holds degrees from McGill University and the University of California, Berkeley.
Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister: Spector served as Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Brian Mulroney from 1984 to 1988. In this role, he was a key advisor on domestic and foreign policy. He was deeply involved in key policy initiatives of the Mulroney government, including the Canada-United States Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Ambassador to Israel: Following his time as Principal Secretary, Spector served as Canada's Ambassador to Israel from 1988 to 1992.
Later Career: After his diplomatic service, Spector returned to the private sector. He has been involved in consulting and commentary on political and public affairs. He has written columns for various Canadian newspapers and online publications.
Political Views: Spector is generally considered to be a conservative.
